2015 Color of the Beverage

It’s that time of year again! Pantone has released its Color of the Year for 2015: Marsala (Pantone 18-1438). Pantone describes it as “a naturally robust and earthy wine red” and “a hearty yet stylish tone.” But some of the reaction hasn’t been quite so complimentary. Many in the blogosphere have blasted the choice, comparing it to rust or a dull brick (those were the more polite examples).

Pantone must be respected for the tremendous amount of research and work that goes into their yearly color. And I, for one, don’t think this is the worst color Pantone has ever selected. I prefer it to last year’s Radiant Orchid, for example. But if they are going to choose a color based on a beverage, I do think there are far lovelier hues (and, in the opinion of your humble author, more delicious beverages). Who’s with me?
